The Glasgow Zine Festival is organised every year by the Glasgow Zine Library, a community archive and zine library gathering more than 1000 zines from all over the world.
The festival celebrates zine culture and community, combining a 40+ participants zine fair with a series of affordable events hosted by a diverse panel of artists, performers, writers and makers.
The 2022 edition was based around the theme of collective autonomy, with a focus on collective empowerment and community building. Responding to this, the main inspirations behind the
visual identity tap directly into the DIY practices of printing employed in the end of the 20th century by unions, clubs and collectives. The references include union banners, vintage protest posters, flyers and litho printed socialist pamphlets. The final visual for the poster was built by drawing each individual layer by hand before superposing them. In the programme, the images follow that logic, used as layers placed on top of a predefined frame. The booklet is designed with accessibility constraints in mind, using a yellow background instead of white to facilitate reading.
